Describing the Shire
In the land of Middle-earth, within the land of Arnor and Eriador, there is a place known as the Shire. This small piece of Middle-earth is home to the race of the hobbits. They are rather peculiar creatures, this is because most prefer to be the inhabitants of a hole. This is not a random, dirty hole in the ground, this is a hobbit hole. This hole is a neat and tidy place, that contains plenty of gifts from birthday presents; a cellar stocked full of different foods and drinks, and a warm hearth.
Throughout the Shire, you will find the “shire-folk” These creatures are smaller than the average person, with 4 feet tall being quite a large size. They are a race not accustomed to the likes of conflict, and they prefer a peaceful life. Hobbits rarely encounter the “big-folk” around the Shire, as well as the elves.
One of the main parts of the Shire, is Hobbiton. The area of Hobbiton is a majestic area, filled with grassy plains and hobbit holes in many of the beautiful hills. It is plentiful of grass, trees, and is home to the main character, Frodo Baggins. It is a land that connects to the area of Bywater through the river, Baranduin, which means “golden-brown river” which is a name later given by hobbits, after the river was given the punnish name, “Branda-nîn” which means border water.
Other than Hobbiton, the Shire is also home to different types of locations. Some of the different locations that these hobbits travel to are, the forest and farmland filled Marish, along with the fruitful land of Stock, which hosts, according to Pippin, the best wine in the Golden Perch, and the Brandywine Bridge, which is used to travel over the Brandywine river, into the land of Bree.
