The Pure Power of Speedo

Dear fellow swimmers, a new crazy expensive tech suit has arrived!

“Fast. Powerful. Flexible.” Those are the words that Speedo is using to describe their new line of elite technical swimsuits. The two new competition suits are both within the LZR line that we have seen since early 2008 and was produced for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Both the ‘Pure Intent’ and the ‘Pure Valor’ swimsuits from Speedo have their classic “X” shape design from the LZR X, a previous suit. These also keep most of the same features as their predecessor. But why is this swimsuit worth $400?

There are many reasons for this price. Speedo Aqualabs say that they have created a “new band technology designed to support a powerful leg kick;” they have created a “new textured fabric zones target drag reduction for optimal performance;” and the weird texture on the back of the suit that creates drag reduction through “turbulence management.”

The two time Olympic gold medalist, and holder of several records for both freestyle and butterfly, Caeleb Dressel, had a couple of words to share about the suit. He said that “The LZR Pure Intent feels really good” and also “springy and it’s connected.” Caeleb had mentioned that “you get the compression where you want it – from the booty all the way down to the back of the legs and it works with your kicks, it’s like you have a little spring on you.”

Speedo Aqualabs took over 300+ swimmers like Caeleb Dressel, Ryan Murphy, and Joseph Schooling, who are all the best in the world, to help design and tailor both the feel, and fit of the suit.

Overall, I would totally agree with both Speedo and Caeleb, as the suit feels completely different from past generations, and I also felt that I was able to produce more energy from kicking off of starts, turns, and during a race. Out of my 6 years of using the LZR lineup from Speedo, I would say that both the ‘Pure Intent’ and ‘Pure Valor’ are the best feeling suits… ever to be produced.
